Three Balls Full

I spent some time yesterday evening spinning up the rest of my homework for the spinning class. Here we have the three balls I spun, in order of spinning from left to right. The first one is mostly spun woolen. The second is spun entirely worsted using the "inchworm" method (which I had huge amounts of trouble with). The last is entirely woolen. These balls were wound off the spindle, so the outer yarn is the first yarn I spun in that session.

Three balls of spun singles

I feel like I'm getting better consistency, and I no longer have to park and draft. The wool is still coming out really thick, but I can work on that as soon as I figure out how to make it come out all the same size. Drafting still feels like I've got too much tension in my hands, and the wool is not moving smoothly.

Oh, and the wool allergy? Definitely still there. Between the last two balls I was sneezy and wheezy.

Sucker.

Has anybody suggested you try tussah silk?

If I could figure out where I put your snail mail address, I'd send you non-wool fiber to try out.

I know, I know. I blame you. I would blame Ed, but I think he gets a pass on this one.

As for a bit of non-wool fiber, I'll e-mail you the address. I was planning to get some silk to try out after I got the spinning bit down better; I started by trying to use cotton and I'm sure you can imagine just how much that didn't work as a learning experience. I figured I'd weather out the wool for a bit then move on. (Though I'm finding Merino yarn doesn't bother me too much; I need to get a sample of different wools and try them all for scientific purposes.)

If I could find the right place in my yard to plant a mulberry tree I'd be tempted to raise silkworms, but I'm not sure what Noel would say about that.

Why not wear one of those dust masks you have lying around?

It looks like you're making lots of progress, by the way.

I'd just have to wear a dust mask all the time, then. The fibers get all over my clothes, so the effect lasts a while. Anyway, I get the wheezy feeling before I break out in a rash, so I use that as a sign that it is time to take a break and wash my hands.
